Choosing the Right Home Builders

Home builders build homes that are based on a set of plans for a particular client. These homes are typically custom-designed and built based on the specifications of the client. They often represent the industry at both the state and national levels, and NAHB and PBA are two of the largest associations representing the home building industry. Here are some important tips to choose the right home builders for your next construction project. They can help you get started on your project!

Homes built from a set of plans for a specific client

A homes built from a set of plans for specialized clients is a home that is unique to its owner and built on a particular site. A semi-custom home, for example, is a home in which the customer chooses the floor plan and then customizes specific features, such as carpet and paint colors. Although the interior and exterior design is completely customizable, the structural components of the plans cannot be altered. The amount of selections is usually limited to keep costs low and construction on schedule. The spec home may be a design that has been used before or a one-of-a-kind plan developed for a specific location.

NAHB is a trade association for home builders

As the nation’s largest and most influential trade association for home builders, the NAHB has a unique role to play. It advocates for the industry on Capitol Hill, in state houses, and in the communities where home builders live and work. Through advocacy efforts, BUILD-PAC, and education resources, the NAHB helps members save money and improve their business environments. The organization also educates members about important issues and works with federal agencies on housing regulations.

The National Association of Home Builders is a Washington-based organization that represents more than 140,000 home builders and other associated businesses. NAHB works at the state and national levels to create a positive and prosperous environment for home builders. Membership in the federation gives members access to expert industry information and access to resources, promoting professional growth and saving members money. Ohio’s Home Builders Association represents 4,000 members and acts as the voice of the building industry on state legislative and regulatory levels. It is affiliated with the National Association of Home Builders and works to promote pro-active involvement in state legislative and regulatory issues. Dues are only $100 per year, and 26.4 percent of the dues go directly to lobbying efforts. This makes NAHB a valuable member for Ohio home builders and their customers.

PBA represents the home building industry at the state level

The Pennsylvania Builders Association (PBA) is the trade association that represents the home building industry on the state level. Its members include home builders, remodelers, developers, plumbers, electricians, drywallers, architects, real estate brokers, and accountants. It is the only trade association in the state of Pennsylvania representing the entire industry, as well as individual locals. In addition to assisting members, the HBA also offers information on building industry issues and services.

In addition to the Pennsylvania Builders Association, the BLSJ is an industry trade association that represents professional builders, developers, and remodelers in southern New Jersey. The PBA and BLSJ recently announced their partnership, effective April 1, 2012. To qualify for the program, applicants must be active members of either the BLSJ or another eligible association. To qualify for membership, applicants must become members within 15 days of the policy’s effective date.

As President of the Pennsylvania Builders Association, Josh George will help guide the industry at the state level. Josh is an active member of the York Builders Association (YBA), and served as its president for two terms. Josh’s service to his region will serve as a valuable asset to the state associations, as will his ability to communicate with his fellow association members. George will represent the southcentral region of Pennsylvania, which includes York, Lancaster, Adams, and Franklin counties.
