How Will You Identify a Trapezoid? – Properties of Trapezoid
Trapezoids have a structure of quadrilaterals. It inherits a shape that is similar to a four-sided polygon. How will you spot a trapezoid? The structure can be identified by the properties of the trapezoid. In brief, it can be said that a single set of the opposite sides goes parallelly and there is another set of non-parallel sides. So, in this structure of trapezoid, the parallel sides are called the bases, while the non-parallel sides are called the legs of the structure. Now we will know about the properties of trapezoid in detail.
As already mentioned, Trapezoid is a type of quadrilateral, but it of course has its definite shape and structure. In this section, we are going to discuss the properties of the Trapezoid, which makes it unique among other shapes.
Distinctively, there are three different types of Trapezoids, namely:
Students in the examination are often asked to find out the measurement of a Trapezoid, in this case, they need to know that there are two formulae based on the Area of a Trapezoid and the Perimeter of a Trapezoid. Now, we will study the formula of the Perimeter of the Trapezoid.
The Perimeter of a structure can be defined as the sum of the length of all its sides. So, the perimeter of the Trapezoid is the length of the boundaries that encompass the Trapezoid. The Trapezoid is typically a 2D figure, this makes the structure located on a 2D platform as well.
Suppose, the sides of the Trapezoid a named P, Q, R, and S. Now the perimeter of the Trapezoid can be measured as – PQ + QR + RS + SP
Thus, the perimeter of a trapezoid is the sum total of all the sides.
How would you measure the area of trapezoid? In order to measure the area of a trapezoid, first, you need to take out the average of the parallel sides of the trapezoid and after that, you need to multiply the average measurement with the measure of its height.
Suppose, the base of the sides are p and q and the height is h, thus the average of the p and q is then multiplied by the perpendicular height h.
Thus, we see in order to calculate the area and perimeter of a trapezoid we need to calculate by using two different formulae. These two formulae are used universally.
As we come to the end of the discussion, we must say that trapezoid is a fun figure which takes the shape of a parallelogram, square, and even as a rectangle! To know more similar fun figures, visit Cuemath and experience a dun learning of your favorite subject Maths.
