SUVs or Minivan: Which One Should You Go For?

Minivans have this image of being old fashioned and dowdy and on the other hand SUVs are considered modern and trendy. The major difference between the two is space, Minivans tend to be more spacious while an SUV has limited space. Another difference is, SUVs are less efficient on fuel and less comfortable for passengers.
Now which one out of SUVs or Minivans totally depends upon your needs, either you need a vehicle for family travel, you need it for cargo, you want to use it for promotion and branding of your startup or you need it for any other commercial business.
Below is a comparison between the features of both car types, you can look up to different SUVs and minivans serving different purposes, features and see which one suits your situation.
Cargo Space Compared
Minivans have a good cargo space in it, even if it’s full with the passengers, it will still have the capacity for strollers, groceries or suitcases. Minivans like Chrysler Pacifica, Dodge Grand Caravan, Honda Odyssey, Kia Sedona and Toyota Sienna have less than 31 cubic feet of space behind the third row.
Now normally, SUVs don’t offer this much space. But still, if you wish to have an SUV with cargo space, you will have to go all the way to the top and opt for a Chevrolet Suburban which offers 40 cubic feet of space behind the third row and 77 cubic feet of storage behind the second row.
Other than the spacious SUVs, if I talk about mid-size SUVs, it has less than 20 cubic feet of storage space behind the last row.
Passenger Space Compared
Minivans are comfortable for passengers in the third row, the space and the height of the van makes it easy for an adolescent to sit there restfully and a taller person will have a little more knee room in a minivan as compared to sitting in an SUV. It’s a fact that an SUV gives excellent ground clearance but you have to compromise with its height.
 
Towing and All-Wheel Drive
Every crossover or SUV offers all-wheel drive, you just have to pay extra for this feature. Some minivans like Chrysler Pacifica can also tow trailers of 3600 pounds but they are not as stronger, tough and brawny as most large SUVs. So, if you are planning to travel the countryside and you want to tow a camper while trekking over uneven surfaces, go for an SUV.
Fuel Economy Compared
This is something very important to be compared and to look closely at before choosing either to opt for a minivan or an SUV.
Most minivans are powered by a V-6, and they all make between 24 mpg and 30 mpg on the highway, the plug-in-hybrid variant of the most commonly sold Chrysler Pacifica is rated at 76 MPGe on the highway before its 29-mile electric range dies.
These numbers are not smart comparably other vehicles these days but they’re better than what you will find in most SUVs which offer the same kind of cargo storage space and the same kind of capacity for passengers seating.
Model Variety Compared
Looking at what models and vehicle types are being sold, looks like minivans are stuck with marketing myopia since the automakers are not putting so much time and energy into its transformation anymore. In recent years, they are not enjoyed as they used to be in the 90s. Only two models are seen demanding, Chrysler Pacifica and Honda Odyssey since these are the only cars that have been styled and rebuilt or transformed mechanically.
The time when minivans experienced decline is the time when SUVs arise. From budget to luxury brands, a wide variety of SUVs are being sold. Call it a trend, a long-running fashion or a dramatic market drift, SUVs have taken over not only minivans but passenger cars as well.
